I am reminded of my experience with the Amazon Health Project almost everyday of my life. Everyone is aware that the majority of people in the developing world do not have the same quality of life that most of us in the industrialized world take for granted, but being in the Amazon Rainforest actually allowed me to visualize it. Now I am aware that for every time I drive somewhere or go on a computer or have a glass of clean water, there are dozens of other people throughout the world who cannot do the same at that moment in time. Communities in the developing world, like those that we visited in the Amazon, are exploited to provide for the industrialized world against their will. They deserve to have at least the same quality of life that we have. Being able to give back to them was the least I could do, and it forever changed the way I interact with my surroundings.”
